A
little background, "Song for the Knights of Labor"
comes from a musical that Lauren and Mark are writing called "Iron
& Gold." Its plot centers on the conflict between robber
baron Jay Gould and labor organizer/railroad shop man Martin Irons, a
member of the Knights of Labor, who led the 1886 Southwest Strike against
Gould's Texas and Pacific Railroad. This song is sung by Irons at the
end of the First Act. |
